Two policemen, criminally investigated for allegedly asking for a bribe from a driver

Two employees of the National Public Security Inspectorate are criminally investigated for passive corruption, after they were reported by a driver to the national anti-corruption line of CNA.

According to the whistleblower, the law enforcement officers allegedly asked him for 100 euros and 1,160 lei in order not to document him for alleged violations of the Road Traffic Regulations.

Following the complaint filed, CNA officers and anti-corruption prosecutors initiated a criminal investigation for passive corruption and identified, hot on the trail, INSP employees.

Currently, the police officers are being investigated while at liberty, and the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office is leading the criminal investigation.

According to the Criminal Code, the actions committed are punishable by a fine ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 lei, with the deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions or to exercise a certain activity for a period of up to 5 years.
