Doctors in Germany call for mandatory EU-wide testing of all passengers from China

Doctors in Germany call for mandatory EU-wide testing of all passengers coming from China after the country again faces an explosion of coronavirus cases, reports DPA, quoted by Agerpres. On the other hand, the EU is offering China free vaccines against Covid-19 to help reduce the outbreak, announced the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides, quoted by the Financial Times.

The coronavirus is likely to undergo mutations, given the wave of contamination in China, Johannes Nießen, president of the Federal Association of Doctors of the Public Health Service, told the Funke media group newspapers. That's why we have to be prepared, he also said.

"Now we need uniform protection across Europe. "Every traveller from China should be tested with rapid tests upon entering the EU," the German doctor added. The rule should apply to those on business trips, tourists and other visitors," he added.

Those who test positive for the coronavirus should have a PCR test and the sample sequenced, and passengers infected with the coronavirus should be isolated, Nießen added.European

Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides asked EU members to review national virus monitoring measures and step them up again if necessary.

Meanwhile, several European countries, including France, Italy and Spain, have imposed entry restrictions on travellers from China or held out the prospect of some such measures Morocco even closed its borders to travellers coming from China.
