The first stage of implementation of the administrative reform could be completed in a few months

The first stage of implementation of the administrative reform can be completed by the local elections of 2023, said Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița in an interview for Nord-News. However, the whole process is a long one, said the head of the Executive. The prime minister emphasised that the main goal of the reform is to have localities in the country capable of attracting and implementing projects from European funds.

"We have to move through a social consensus and we come up with the concept of voluntary amalgamation. Localities may decide to amalgamate into larger localities, because larger localities also have more income, and can attract better specialists and work together for a larger number of beneficiaries. We will grant certain incentives including salary, road reconstruction projects, and other projects to stimulate the administrative growth of localities. We will also come up with the rethinking of powers between districts, localities and the government", declared the prime minister.

Radio Moldova recalls that at the beginning of November, last year, consultations were held with international experts from the USA, Canada, Romania, Denmark, Albania, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. They discussed the options for administrative reform and solutions for increasing capacities at the local level. Then, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița noted that the granting of the status of a candidate country for EU accession offered the Republic of Moldova new possibilities for social and economic development, but also a series of responsibilities, such as the efficiency of the administration system, so that it ensures the good governance at local and central level, to an extent comparable to European states.
