Natalia Gavrilița: All silos in the country will be subject to checks
All the silos in the country will be subject to checks after the repeated fires in Giurgiulesti Port, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița announced today. The Head of the Executive stated that any violations in the construction and exploitation process will be sanctioned according to the law, and the consequences for the people in the area, but also for the environment, must be compensated.

"It is unacceptable that people suffer because of the irresponsibility of some economic agents", Natalia Gavrilița wrote on her Facebook page, noting that at the beginning of last week, she asked all the responsible ministries to quickly investigate the causes of the repeated fires at the silos in Giurgiulești port and order the necessary measures to remove the consequences and prevent incidents of this kind in the future.
On September 15, 2022, on the territory of the international port of Giurgiulesti, the first incident was recorded with the collapse of two metal silos for storing sawdust in sunflower granules with a volume of 1,200 m3 each, which caused a violation of the technological process of storing sawdust in 4 other adjacent silos.
Later, on November 13, 2022, inside two of the 4 silos, an increase in temperature was recorded (up to 100℃), and on December 30, 2022, during the actions to evacuate the product from inside the silos, one of these caught fire.
On the spot, the employees of the Inspectorate intervened, who together with the employees of the objective, ensured actions to cool the silos from a safe distance, but the danger of fire and collapse of the installations remained high.
On the morning of January 16, a new fire broke out following the collapse of a storage tank for sunflower meal granules. Firefighters from the south of the country managed to locate the fire only last night, after the high-capacity metal construction collapsed under control at 01:29.
