Construction work for both hospitals is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026, with both expected to be operational by 2029, according to Health Minister Ala Nemerenco during the "At 360 Degrees" program on Radio Moldova. She explained that the Bălți hospital project is currently in the tendering phase, while the feasibility study for the Cahul hospital is still being developed.

The tender process for the Bălți hospital is currently ongoing, with seven bids submitted and all evaluated. In about a week, the working group will meet to select the company that will carry out the project. Once this is finalized, the next stage will proceed, which involves the architectural design and construction. As for Cahul, we are slightly behind, but I believe we could potentially surpass the Bălți hospital, as its capacity, according to the feasibility study, is smaller, allowing us to move more quickly.

The construction of the Bălți regional hospital will cost over 100 million euros, with most of the funding provided through loans from the Council of Europe Development Bank. However, authorities are also working to identify additional resources, particularly grants.

For example, five design concepts have been proposed for the Bălți hospital, each with a different price. To date, a loan agreement for 103 million euros has been signed. Furthermore, we are in discussions with various partners to incorporate grant-funded projects into the plans, as the hospital's construction will cover all necessary equipment, with no additional purchases required.

According to authorities, the Bălți regional hospital will serve approximately 300,000 patients from the north, while the Cahul regional hospital will serve about 120,000 patients from the south of the Republic of Moldova.
