Energy Minister: "Vulcănești-Chișinău power line spans 120 kilometers"

Works on the Vulcănești-Chișinău high-voltage power line have extended over a distance of 120 kilometers, the line representing one of the most important strategic projects of the Republic of Moldova, in the context of ensuring the country's energy security, said the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, in a video recording on Facebook.

The construction site spans approximately 120 kilometers and includes 163 assembled pillars and 373 foundations. At the Chisinau Station, the foundation work has been completed, and the assembly of metal structures for the electrical equipment is ongoing. Meanwhile, at the Vulcănești Electric Station, preparation and design work is progressing well. Construction is set to begin in June, as stated by the Minister of Energy.

Construction work on the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line began in March, and the authorities promise it will be completed by the end of this year. The overhead electric line will span 157 kilometers, featuring over 500 pylons and 1,500 kilometers of conductors. This strategic connection will link the south and the center of Moldova, intersecting eight districts and 35 localities. Depending on the power system's demand, the line has the potential to cover 50 percent of energy consumption during peak periods.

This project is part of the Power System Development Project, which includes priority measures from the Government of the Republic of Moldova aimed at ensuring the country’s energy security. The project is financed by the World Bank, with a total value of 61 million euros, of which approximately 27 million euros are allocated for the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau line.
