Woman from Nisporeni, sentenced to 6 years in prison for human trafficking

She allegedly kidnapped and forcibly transported a young orphan to Chisinau, whom she forced to have sexual relations for payment in several apartments in Chisinau. A 35-year-old woman from Nisporeni district, was sentenced to six years in prison for human trafficking for sexual exploitation, the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office announced.

According to the investigation, between June and July 2021, the defendant took advantage of the victim's vulnerable state - lack of family support, poor financial situation and the fact that the young woman had been raised in foster care - and induced her, through deception, threats and abuse of trust, to provide sexual services for payment.

Under the pretext of a fabricated debt, the victim was forcibly transported from her home district to the municipality of Chisinau and sexually exploited in several short-term rented apartments.

The young woman was beaten, threatened with death and falsely accused of theft, to be forced to continue her activity. Although she tried to escape several times, she was found and forcibly brought back by the defendant.

Investigators determined that the woman created and managed ads on the online platform "Badoo", through which she promoted sexual services in the name of the victim, to attract clients. She responded to requests received at the indicated phone numbers and transported the victim by taxi to various addresses in Chisinau, including rented apartments.

After each meeting, the defendant waited in the car and collected the money, amounts ranging from 50 to 100 euros.

Initially, the criminal case was framed as pimping, but later, based on the accumulated evidence, the accusation was reclassified as human trafficking, a much more serious crime.

By the recent sentence of the Chisinau Court based in Buiucani, the woman was sentenced to six years of detention, to be served in a semi-closed penitentiary for women. At the same time, the court banned her from holding positions or carrying out activities that involve transporting or employing people abroad for five years.

The defendant denies her guilt.

The prosecutor's office also stated that the woman has other criminal records.
