New Schengen rules, tested at the Prut crossing points

Travelers entering Romania from the Republic of Moldova at the Costești customs are now subject to the new Entry/Exit System (EES) requirements. These rules were implemented on October 12 at the external borders of the European Union.
According to the Border Police, a new system is gradually replacing passport stamping with a digital recording of entry and exit data, which also tracks the duration of stay in EU member states. During the first border crossing, travellers will have their biometric data collected, including a facial photo and fingerprints.
The institution states, "Moldovan citizens, as third-country nationals, are targeted by these new measures," emphasizing that border crossings into the EU now follow the new Entry/Exit System (EES) procedures.
Border police officers at the Costești point assist travelers by answering questions and distributing information leaflets to help them understand the rules and ensure a quick and efficient transit.
