When walking through the streets of Chisinau, take note of the QR code panels installed throughout the city. Scanning these codes allows you to uncover the history of Chisinau, learn about its capital, and discover notable personalities associated with the area. Thanks to these new technologies, foreign tourists can navigate the city more easily and explore its attractions. Additionally, electronic posters, known as digital maps, have been placed in various locations as part of a project by Egor Sotnic.

"In Chisinau, there are currently two types of panels. We have A4-sized panels, placed on pillars – 94 in total throughout Chisinau. And there are also those with solar panels and an autonomous lighting system, three in total at the moment – two are in the Centru sector and one in the Râșcani sector", Egor Sotnic said on the Zi de zi show on Radio Moldova.

The three panels are integrated into the pavement, at ground level. According to the project's author, the maps were installed in the city's most popular areas, where pedestrian traffic is highest.

"They are in front of Mihai Eminescu Square, at the intersection of A. Pușkin and 31 August 1989 streets, in front of the "Gheorghe Asachi" Lyceum, as well as at the intersection of Alecu Russo Str. and Moscovei Boulevard, right at the exit from the underground. Moscovei Boulevard is a very popular area, many people pass by there and can access this information,” added Egor Sotnic.

The same source recalled that the Republic of Moldova is visited annually by hundreds of thousands of tourists. According to him, foreign visitors spend, on average, between two and four days in our country. However, there is currently no effective system or mechanism for them to quickly access useful information about the places they visit.

For this reason, Sotnic and his team developed this new concept — the installation of QR code plates, accompanied by the simple message: “Learn more about the street you are on”.

"If they are interested in learning more about the street or location they are in, the person can scan this QR code and find out where it is and all the places worth visiting, with audio and text descriptions in three languages – Romanian, Russian and English, as well as pictures. Thus, the person can first see the description or pictures of the location and listen to information about it, without necessarily going there," explained the author.

The project aims not only to inform tourists, but also to capitalize on cultural heritage. Sotnic emphasized that, through this initiative, historical monuments and buildings "come to life", helping people to better know the history and personalities of the capital.
