Daniella Misail-Nichitin: The fight against electoral corruption continues beyond election periods

The police have documented over 26,000 cases of electoral corruption and illegal financing in the last two years, and the courts have upheld most of the reports drawn up by law enforcement officers, says the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

"During this period, the Police conducted over 1,000 searches in cases of illegal financing, electoral corruption and related crimes. There were over 300 searches in cases of destabilization or the organization of mass disorder. In 2025 alone, the Police conducted about 600 searches targeting electoral corruption and destabilization actions," Misail-Nichitin said on Tuesday evening, October 28, on RLive.

The acting Minister of Internal Affairs, who was proposed for a new mandate in the new Government, emphasized that the phenomena of electoral corruption and attempts at destabilization are monitored permanently, not just during the campaigns.

"These are activities that are constantly monitored and investigated. They do not only take place during election campaigns," the official emphasized, adding that in recent days there have also been raids in the north of the country on cases of organizing mass disorder.

Regarding the sanctions applied to those who tried to buy or sell votes, Misail-Nichitin said that the Police have drawn up tens of thousands of reports.

"We are talking about over 26,000 cases documented by the Police. Yes, we also have cases when they are dismissed, but most of the time they remain in force," the minister said, contradicting claims that the courts dismiss most cases due to lack of evidence.

On the same show, the head of the Interior Ministry recalled that the ministry has a specialized structure that monitors and acts against illegal content and online disinformation.

“Within the National Investigation Inspectorate, the Center for Combating Cybercrimes is active, which monitors the information space and takes steps to block illegal or harmful content,” explained Misail-Nichitin.

She said that, since September, the Center has become a focal point for the TikTok platform, having the ability to request the blocking of videos with propaganda content.

*“The blocking of content and videos on this platform was requested daily. We are talking about dozens of materials that were removed at the request of the authorities,” pointed out Minister Misail-Nichitin.
