Two people from Călărași, detained for blackmail: they demanded 12,000 euros for an alleged gold theft

He spent the night at a fellow villager's house, and that night almost cost him 12,000 euros. A man from Călărași was accused by two villagers of stealing 200 grams of gold and was subsequently blackmailed into paying a debt of 12,000 euros.

The Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) announced the arrest of two alleged blackmailers following a victim's report to law enforcement.

According to details provided by spokesperson Emil Gaitur, the suspects imposed a fabricated debt, claiming that the victim had stolen 200 grams of gold while staying overnight with one of them in 2022. In the months of September and October 2025, the two men, aged 21 and 25 and previously tried for robbery, visited the victim multiple times, demanding various amounts of money (750 and 250 euros). They initially contacted the victim by phone and threatened him with physical violence.

Prosecutors filed a motion in court to place the two men in pretrial detention.
