Sandu strips 5 Moldovans of citizenship for joining OGRF

Five citizens of the Republic of Moldova who enlisted in the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF) in the Transnistrian region have been stripped of their Moldovan citizenship. President Maia Sandu signed the decree to revoke the citizenship of the five individuals on Thursday, November 27.

The persons targeted by the presidential decree are Oleg Boț, Vladimir Coblai, Pavel Morozov, Vladimir Osipenco, and Maxim Vasilatii.

Born in the Republic of Moldova, on the left bank of the Dniester, the five had enlisted in the military structures of the OGRF, Russian troops illegally deployed in the Transnistrian region, according to the Presidency’s spokesperson, Igor Zaharov.

The Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF) is a Russian military unit stationed in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

Composed of approximately 1,500 servicemen, this structure emerged after the collapse of the Soviet Union as the successor to the former Soviet 14th Guards Army.

The official role of the OGRF is to guard the massive ammunition depot in Cobasna, which holds tens of thousands of tons of weaponry and poses a significant danger to the entire region.
