Hybrid threats undermine security; Nosatîi says Moldova can protect its people only by joining the free world

The Republic of Moldova continues to face hybrid pressures and risks that manifest in various ways. These include the illegal stationing of Russian troops in the Transnistrian region, instances of informational propaganda, and unauthorized overflights of its airspace. This warning was issued by the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, during the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) Meeting, held on November 28 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the minister, “All these actions have a direct impact on national security and represent clear interference in the democratic and electoral processes of the country.”

Anatolie Nosatîi emphasized that the solution for protecting citizens lies in strengthening cooperation with the international community: “The Republic of Moldova can only protect its citizens by being part of the free world and collaborating with sovereign states that prioritize maintaining peace and stability.”

The minister condemned the military aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, noting its significant impact on European and regional security in recent decades.

“This aggression is not merely a military attack; it is a fundamental assault on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, democratic reforms, and the international legal order,” the official stated.

In his speech, Nosatîi stressed that the Republic of Moldova must enhance its resilience, defense capabilities, and international partnerships to uphold its democratic and European aspirations amid constant regional challenges.

“Peace and security must be defended, consolidated, and maintained through cooperation, dialogue, and collective commitment. The Republic of Moldova remains firmly dedicated to these principles, as well as to the objectives and values of the SEDM. This initiative not only serves as an effective institutional mechanism but also as a community that shares common goals and aspirations for a stable, secure, and prosperous region,” the Minister of Defense said.

During the Sarajevo meeting, Anatolie Nosatîi held bilateral discussions with defense ministers from partner states and representatives of the Center for Security Cooperation (RACVIAC). The conversations focused on military cooperation, prospects for deepening partnerships, and support for enhancing the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova.

The Republic of Moldova has participated in the SEDM Process since 2003, initially holding observer status, and became a full member on November 22, 2023.

SEDM is a regional initiative aimed at strengthening political-military cooperation and ensuring stability and security in Southeast Europe by promoting regional cooperation, good neighborly relations, and enhancing regional defense capabilities.
