Ending the war in Ukraine and securing robust security guarantees were the core issues discussed on Monday, December 1, between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron, during a crucial Zelensky Macron meeting held at the Élysée Palace.

According to a message sent by Zelensky on the X network, the Élysée Palace discussions were intensive, lasting several hours. The leaders focused on a detailed analysis of the critical diplomatic efforts required to restore peace.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine peace talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict and consolidating security guarantees remain a top priority, emphasizing the need for a "truly secure and lasting peace."

He further underlined that, in the current climate, the active involvement of every global leader is paramount to the success of diplomatic efforts and to accelerating the achievement of sustainable peace. He also confirmed that further high-level discussions with other international leaders were scheduled for later in the day.

The Paris summit precedes Emmanuel Macron’s key visit to China, scheduled for December 3-4.

During this trip, the French president intends to once again urge Xi Jinping to exert pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine, according to reporting by RBK-Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has announced a separate meeting for Tuesday, December 2. Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with the special envoy of the United States, Steve Witkoff.

The two are set to discuss the parameters of a possible peace agreement that could lead to the conclusion of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
