Drone attack in Ukraine's Bolgrad temporarily closes Moldova's Giurgiulești-Reni BCP

The Giurgiulești–Reni border crossing point (BCP) was temporarily suspended overnight from Monday to Tuesday following a drone attack on the city of Bolgrad in Ukraine, near the border with the Republic of Moldova.
The suspension was implemented at 01:20 and lasted for about 40 minutes, while border authorities continually monitored the escalating security situation in the area.
The Border Police stated that the air threat information came from the Ministry of Defense's Air Operations Service. Radars had signaled drones located over Ukrainian territory, moving from Reni toward Bolgrad. Ukrainian border authorities confirmed that Bolgrad was attacked with Shahed-type drones.
Mobile patrols from the Cișmichioi and Copceac Border Police Sectors, alongside the stationary patrol at the Vulcănești crossing point, reported several explosions above Bolgrad. They also confirmed that Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems were operational between 01:15 and 01:30.
Crucially, the Border Police specified that the Republic of Moldova airspace was not violated during the incident.
“The airspace of the Republic of Moldova was not overflown; no risks or dangers for citizens were registered on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, in the border area,” the official communiqué noted.
The Ukraine air alert was lifted after 02:01, and operations at the Giurgiulești–Reni crossing point resumed immediately.
This incident follows an event last week when the Republic of Moldova airspace was closed for about 70 minutes (22:43 – 23:53) as an emergency measure. That closure was prompted by two unidentified drones that illegally overflew the national territory, posing a direct threat to aeronautical safety.
