The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) confirmed two outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) and four outbreaks of rabies in the Republic of Moldova between November 20 and December 2, 2025. In response, the agency has implemented quarantine measures and warned the public about the high risk of disease transmission.

The institution reported an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) detected in domestic pigs in the Berezovca locality of the Ocnița district. Additionally, another outbreak was confirmed in wild boars in Zloti village, Cimișlia district, where four wild boar carcasses were found.

Regarding rabies, the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) announced the confirmation of a rabies outbreak in dogs in the Nimoreni locality of Ialoveni district. There is also an outbreak in cattle in the Șipoteni locality of Hincești district, and two outbreaks were identified in foxes in the Oxentea locality (Dubăsari district) and Hrușova locality (Criuleni district).

ANSA notes that in response to the ASF outbreaks, "quarantine measures were introduced, and protection, surveillance, and infected areas were established," which also applies to wild boars. Specialists are actively monitoring forest resources to identify potential wild boar carcasses, control animal movements, and census domestic pigs in households and farms.

The agency emphasizes that the four wild boar carcasses found in Zloti were discovered in relation to the confirmed outbreak among wild boars harvested during hunting parties on November 16, 2025, within the Cimișlia Forestry and Hunting Enterprise.

The authority warns that "the high risk of ASF outbreaks in both domestic pigs and wild boars remains a significant concern and urges people to refrain from using food waste of animal origin in pig feed and to strictly adhere to biosecurity measures".
