Diaconia’s holiday initiative helps single mothers and young children in need

The Social Mission "Diaconia" has launched this year's edition of its Christmas campaign, "In the Mother's Arms". This initiative is aimed at supporting mothers who are left to care for their children alone, providing them with immediate assistance, safe living environments, and opportunities for a fresh start. The organization plans to implement a series of special actions to encourage the community to contribute to the support of beneficiaries at the maternity center.

The main objective of the campaign is to strengthen solidarity with mothers in difficult situations, explains Ana-Maria Gorobica, public relations manager at Diaconia Mission. She states, "The primary goal of this initiative is to build a community that is sensitive and responsive to the challenges faced by mothers left alone with a baby in their arms. We also aim to provide them the opportunity for a new start in a safe and dignified environment."

Ana-Maria emphasizes that these women receive daily support at the maternity center during critical moments. "We all know that in times of crisis, we need support and a kind word, and this initiative comes to the aid of these mothers," she mentioned during an interview on the show "Dimineata cu Radio Moldova."

Throughout the campaign, several public events will be held, including a special Christmas party. "This year, for Christmas, we are hosting an event called 'Where Good Gathers.' It will take place on December 14 and promises to be an experience full of emotion, inspiration, and connection," noted the Diaconia Mission representative. The program will feature creative workshops, personal development activities, and artistic moments, all designed to mobilize the community to support the mothers at the center.

Diaconia encourages citizen involvement through event participation and direct donations. The campaign manager explained how individuals can contribute: "A donation of 500 lei provides a day of support for a mother-child couple, while 4,000 lei ensures a day of comprehensive assistance for all mother-child pairs."

The maternity center has a capacity of 10 places and currently accommodates eight mother-child couples, with needs that are constant and varied. For this reason, every contribution is valuable, especially donations of hygiene products, medicines, or personalized greeting cards that will be sold during this period. All funds raised will be directed towards supporting the beneficiaries.

Last year's campaign results highlight the impact of community solidarity. Ana-Maria Gorobica noted, "Over 80 corporate teams and hundreds of individual donors joined our initiative," stating that the funds collected provided "375 days of assistance for mother-child couples." The money was used to purchase essential items such as diapers, powdered milk, medicines, and other daily necessities.

The "In the Mother's Arms" campaign has been running for 14 years, since the establishment of the maternity center in 2011. Since then, 226 mothers have received support, enabling them to keep their children by their side and overcome difficult times with the community's help.
