Prosecutors in the Republic of Moldova and Romania will intensify their exchange of good practices and their cooperation in cross border investigations, actions set out in an agreement signed by the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), a specialized structure of the Public Ministry in Romania.

The document was signed during a formal ceremony at the General Prosecutor’s Office in Chișinău and marks the first collaboration of this level between PCCOCS and a similar institution in another state.

The agreement creates a stronger framework for coordinated investigations into human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering schemes, and other forms of organized crime.

This agreement confirms the trust between our institutions and shows a shared commitment to fight organized crime with modern and effective tools. International cooperation no longer stands as an option, it stands as a necessity, and this step strengthens our institutional capacity, interim Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon said.

PCCOCS Chief Prosecutor Victor Furtună stated that the agreement enables faster access to the exchange of good practices and to direct dialogue. Investigations into criminal networks can no longer remain limited by borders, and cooperation with DIICOT, an institution with strong experience, will help improve the quality of our investigations, he said.

DIICOT Chief Prosecutor Alina Albu highlighted the strategic nature of the document, which strengthens PCCOCS’s role as an essential partner in joint efforts to combat organized crime.
