„Help at the Meter”: beneficiaries can pick up their money at the post office starting December 15

Beneficiaries of energy compensation can collect their payments at post offices nationwide. Starting today, December 15, individuals who are unable to receive payments through a bank or social card can visit the post office. They must present their identity card for verification.

According to the authorities, more than two-thirds of households registered on the compensatii.gov.md platform will receive financial support during the 2025–2026 cold season. Specifically, 605,538 out of approximately 783,000 households that submitted applications have qualified for the government energy compensation program known as "Help at the Meter," as announced by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru.

These eligible households account for over 1.2 million citizens, with the state's total budget for this program exceeding 2.3 billion lei. The minister also mentioned that payments for November are already available. Beneficiaries who provided a bank or social account will receive their funds through direct transfer in the coming days.

In terms of the compensation amounts, over half of the beneficiaries—around 53%—will receive the maximum assistance: 800 lei for households that use solid fuels (wood and coal) and 1,000 lei for those utilizing other energy sources. Approximately 23% of households will receive intermediate amounts, while the remainder will get the minimum compensation of 500 lei. These compensations are provided monthly throughout the heating season, from November to March.

Data analyzed by the ministry indicates that 287,000 beneficiary households heat with solid fuels, over 169,000 use natural gas, 106,134 are connected to centralized thermal energy, and more than 42,000 rely on electricity as their primary heating source.

To determine eligibility, the authorities connected to 12 databases from state and private institutions, including the State Tax Service, the National Social Insurance House, the Border Police, and various banking institutions.

Individuals who are dissatisfied with their assigned degree of energy vulnerability can request explanations by contacting the call center at 0 8000 5000 or via email at [email protected]. Additionally, those who missed the registration deadline can still submit their applications later and will be included in the system for the following months.
