Security decision: the state takes over 'Lukoil-Moldova' assets at the airport

The assets of "Lukoil-Moldova" at the airport will be returned to state ownership within 20 days, as they were prior to 2005. On Monday, the Council for the Examination of Investments in Areas of Importance for State Security voted to deny approval for SRL "Lukoil-Moldova" 's investment activities in the Republic of Moldova. The authorities in Chisinau justified their decision by stating that "Lukoil-Moldova" failed to meet several requirements set by the Council since May 2024, according to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
Alexandru Munteanu highlighted three key points regarding the situation:
- The alienation of the "Aeroport" oil complex, which is located near Chisinau International Airport. The deadline for fulfilling this requirement has been extended multiple times.
- The modification of the corporate structure to exclude entities that are subject to international sanctions.
- The alienation of the oil depot on Muncești Street.
Additionally, the working group responsible for managing risks related to international sanctions imposed on Lukoil has informed the relevant authorities to investigate the entire procedure from 2005 concerning the takeover of the oil terminal at the airport by Lukoil.
In the Republic of Moldova, Lukoil controls approximately 20% of the gas station market, oversees nearly half of diesel imports, and manages almost 110 gas stations. The company also supplies 100% of the kerosene used by the airport through its subsidiary, Lukoil-Moldova, which owns its own aviation fuel tanks. To prevent a crisis regarding aviation fuel, the "Eugen Doga" Chisinau International Airport took over the operation of the oil terminal at no cost on November 14.
