Since the beginning of the year, six million passengers have passed through Eugen Doga International Airport. The record was set by Adriana Munteanu, a Moldovan resident of Dubai, who returned to spend the holidays in the Republic of Moldova. In light of the rising number of travelers, the authorities promised significant investments and plans to expand the airport terminal.

Adriana Munteanu has returned home after four years abroad. Having studied in the United Arab Emirates, she was in for a surprise upon her return to the Republic of Moldova: she was awarded two round-trip plane tickets and a city break for two people in Dubai.

"I feel wonderful. When I left Chișinău, I was just a law student, but now, after four years as a lawyer, it feels as if the Republic of Moldova is celebrating my return, and I am thrilled,” says the young woman.

The continuous increase in passenger traffic at the “Eugen Doga” International Airport in Chișinău has prompted authorities to implement several measures to improve operations, including expanding the terminal.

"By 2026, we expect to complete the reconstruction of Chișinău airport. This project will add approximately 5,000 square meters, which is about a 30 percent increase in the current terminal size. This means more comfort and additional exit gates," emphasized Vladimir Bolea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

"We are continually monitoring passenger traffic, which we appreciate. At the same time, we are taking other actions, such as modernizing the infrastructure. By modernizing, I mean not only expanding the terminal's capacity but also enhancing all equipment starting next year. This state-of-the-art equipment will allow us to process passengers more quickly,” said Sergiu Spoială, the airport administrator.
