Baltic Speakers back Moldova’s EU bid: Estonia confirms new embassy in Chisinau
Estonia will establish a permanent diplomatic mission in Chisinau during the second half of 2026. This move ensures that all three Baltic states will have full diplomatic representation in the Republic of Moldova.

The announcement was made on February 2 during a joint press conference. The visit of the Baltic Speakers follows an invitation from the President of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu.
Grosu described the Baltic presence as a "clear sign of friendship and solidarity." He noted that for Moldova, the Baltic states serve as a benchmark for escaping historical "gray zones" and reforming sovereign institutions.
A trajectory built on political will
The Moldovan Speaker reiterated the country’s commitment to European integration. He highlighted the September 2025 parliamentary elections as a decisive moment where citizens firmly backed pro-European forces.
"We are no longer discussing if, but when," Grosu stated. He emphasized that the timeline depends on internal unity and the continued "practical and high-impact" support from European partners.
Sector-specific Baltic cooperation
The partnership involves strategic expertise across multiple sectors:
Estonia: Leading partner in the digitalization of public services. Latvia: Actively contributing to civil service capacity building. Lithuania: Supporting renewable energy projects, including solar installations in schools and hospitals.
Lauri Hussar, President of the Estonian Riigikogu, praised Moldova's progress. He noted that the new embassy is a signal of how seriously the EU views Moldova’s integration process.

The 2027 strategic window
Lithuanian Speaker Juozas Olekas highlighted a unique opportunity for Moldova. He noted that Lithuania will hold the Presidency of the EU Council in 2027, with enlargement and security at the top of its agenda.
While some timelines remain ambitious, Baltic leaders expressed confidence that official negotiations will proceed without the threat of a veto. They reaffirmed that Moldova is an integral part of the European family.
The official visit continues through February 4. The delegation will address a solemn session of Parliament on February 3 and hold high-level meetings with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
