Air services agreement: Republic of Moldova negotiates with the Republic of Korea

The Republic of Moldova will expand its air connectivity by launching direct flights from Chișinău to airports in Korea. The Government has mandated an official delegation to negotiate the upcoming air services agreement.
“We will, for the first time, create the necessary legal framework for cooperation in the field of air transport between the two states, which will establish the rules for operating bilateral air services, including aspects related to aviation safety and security, operating rights, and the authorization of airlines,” said Angela Țurcanu, Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), at the Government meeting on 18 February.
The negotiating delegation will be led by State Secretary Mircea Păscăluță and will include representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Aviation Authority.
“Signing the agreement will enable the launch of direct flights between Chișinău and destinations in the Republic of Korea, contribute to increased passenger traffic, create new economic and tourism opportunities for our citizens, as well as strengthen bilateral diplomatic relations and improve the investment climate,” the MIDR Secretary General added.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Korea were established in January 1992. The Republic of Korea does not have an embassy in Chișinău and is represented by Park Kichang, who resides in Kyiv, Ukraine.
President Maia Sandu accepted the diplomat’s letters of accreditation on 17 February. On the same day, Ambassador Park Kichang signed an economic cooperation agreement with Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu, establishing a Moldovan–Korean intergovernmental commission to identify areas of mutual interest for cooperation.

Currently, eight enterprises with Korean capital operate in the Republic of Moldova, with total investments in share capital amounting to 2.3 million lei.
In 2025, the Republic of Moldova’s foreign trade volume with the Republic of Korea reached 105 million US dollars, marking a 26% increase compared to 2024.
