Ion Basoc was named the Republic of Moldova’s best Paralympic athlete of 2025

The Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova has announced its award recipients for 2025. The Paralympic Gala was held at a hotel in the capital, where Ion Basoc was recognized as the best Paralympic athlete in the country. Last year, Basoc won silver medals at both the World and European Para Judo Championships in the +95 kilogram weight category.
Ion Basoc's coach, Vitalie Gligor, and Dumitru Prodan have been recognized as the best coaches in Paralympic sports.
"It was important for me to win medals at the European and World Championships in 2025. I expect to have a competition this year that matches that level. I hope to have a year as productive as last year," said Ion Basoc.
"This year, the qualifications for the Paralympic Games begin. Our focus is on qualifying as many athletes as possible. This is our primary objective," emphasized Vitalie Gligor.
Other athletes who represented the Republic of Moldova at international competitions were also present at the Paralympic Gala 2025, including Ina Cernei in para judo and Gheorghe Spînu in para athletics.
"For me, last year was complicated due to many injuries, which is a natural part of sports. I am ready to start strong in 2026," pointed out Ina Cernei.
"We know each other well and are familiar with the competitions each of us participates in. We are a big Paralympic family," reiterated Gheorghe Spînu.
The year 2025 marked a significant milestone for the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova, as they organized the first edition of the national mini-football championship for the blind in December of the previous year.
"My thoughts are focused on the Los Angeles Paralympics. I am confident that an athlete from the Republic of Moldova can win a gold medal. I won’t disclose their name, but I believe in their strength," said Oleg Crețul, president of the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova.
The next edition of the Paralympic Games will take place from August 15 to 27, 2028, in Los Angeles, USA.
