Concept for local administration reform to be announced at end of March

The government will hold consultations next week regarding local public administration reform in Orhei, Telenești, and Taraclia. This concept will also be discussed in Gagauzia Autonomous Region and Chisinau municipality.
From February 9 to March 6, consultations regarding the vision for public administration reform were held in 29 districts across the country, including the municipality of Bălți. More than 3,700 local elected officials and citizens participated in these discussions, which took place in Leova, Fălești, Ungheni, and Bălți.
According to the Executive, the purpose of these dialogues is to gather suggestions and recommendations for the future concept of local public administration reform, which is expected to be released at the end of March.
The authorities outlined the main changes that will occur, including the simplification of the voluntary amalgamation process for mayoralties, the revamped role of districts in the new local public administration structure, the implementation stages of the reform, and its anticipated impact on the accelerated development of communities.
Suggestions regarding the reform may be sent to the email address [email protected]. Additionally, a public consultation on legislative amendments to simplify the voluntary amalgamation process has been initiated. The project details can be found on the particip.gov.md platform.
The proposed changes include greater flexibility in the voluntary amalgamation process, improved methods for citizen consultation, the debureaucratization of procedures, and the elimination of several documents previously required by local public authorities. Furthermore, the obligation to hold early elections before the general local elections in 2027 has been removed, providing more flexibility in establishing the administrative center.
