Moldova nears completion of €1.9 million bridge restoration on vital northern corridor

The State Road Administration (ASD) has announced that major rehabilitation works on the Răut River bridge and the railway overpass along the Bălți bypass are nearing the final phase.
Construction crews have reached an 80% completion rate, finishing critical structural reinforcements on the piers and abutments.
A strategic regional link
The project is a cornerstone of the national effort to modernize northern Moldova’s transport network. The Bălți bypass serves as a vital logistics hub, and its restoration is essential for regional connectivity and traffic safety.
Total investment for the capital repair is estimated at approximately €1.89 million (approx. 37.5 million MDL). These funds are directed at transforming a legacy structure into a modern transit artery.

Addressing decades of decay
The original overpass, spanning over 50 meters, was constructed in the late 1960s. After more than half a century of use without major intervention, the structure had suffered significant decay, posing a real danger to daily commuters.
Authorities launched the reconstruction in late 2025 to prevent structural failure and ensure the long-term functionality of this high-traffic route.
Final deadline in sight
Work is proceeding according to the established timeline. The State Road Administration expects to fully restore traffic flow by July 1, 2026.
Once completed, the new infrastructure will offer maximum safety standards for the thousands of drivers who utilize this strategic northern segment daily.
