More than 130 cars that were illegally imported into the Republic of Moldova from the European Union have been confiscated by Customs Service officers as part of a smuggling investigation. The vehicles were seized during 20 searches conducted in various locations across the Republic of Moldova.

The investigation into this case began in January of this year.
According to investigators, the cars were initially brought into the country legally. However, they were later dismantled, and the parts were sold separately without paying the taxes and duties required by law.
As a result, the group's members allegedly generated significant income through tax evasion.
During the searches, authorities discovered several cars—some in working condition and others already disassembled—along with phones, documents, records, certificates, and license plates.

The suspects in the case are five men, aged 28 to 48, who are part of a well-organised criminal group comprising citizens from the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
Investigators assert that these men collaborated with representatives from a company that specialises in dismantling vehicles in the Republic of Moldova.
Each member of the group had a specific role in the operation, and their shared objective was to generate illegal profits quickly.
