Parliamentary committee moves to appoint Alina Cebotariov to lead Competition Council

The Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget, and Finance has officially nominated Alina Cebotariov to serve as the new President of the Competition Council. The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 8, by Committee Chair Radu Marian.
The nomination follows the resignation of the former president, Alexei Gherțescu, whose mandate concluded on March 1. The proposal will now move to the main floor of Parliament for a final confirmation vote.
**Extensive regulatory background
Cebotariov brings 25 years of public service experience to the role. She currently serves as Deputy Director of the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA), where she manages state aid schemes and business support programs.
Her professional history includes an 18-year tenure at the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF). During her time there, she led the non-banking lending department, specializing in the oversight of complex financial markets.
Institutional succession
The vacancy was created after Parliament approved Alexei Gherțescu’s resignation on February 26. Gherțescu cited personal reasons for his departure from the regulatory body.
Under Moldovan law, the leadership of the Competition Council is appointed by Parliament. Candidates are typically proposed by the Speaker, following a review and endorsement by the relevant specialized committee.
