Russian drone violates Romanian airspace during night attack on Ukraine

Bucharest surveillance systems detected a temporary breach of sovereign airspace last night. The Ministry of National Defense (MoD) mobilized ground teams and issued emergency warnings following a Russian drone strike on Ukrainian infrastructure near the border.

The National Military Command Center alerted emergency services after identifying two aerial targets. At 00:43, authorities issued a RO-ALERT notification to residents in the northern Tulcea region, advising caution as the situation developed.

Radar systems tracked one target entering Romanian territory for a brief period. Contact was lost approximately 16 kilometers southeast of Chilia Veche over an unpopulated area. The air alert was officially lifted at 02:48.

Romanian authorities issued a stern condemnation of the incursion. Officials described the incident as a grave violation of international law and a persistent threat to regional security. The MoD remains in constant coordination with NATO allied structures.

Ground reconnaissance missions were launched early this morning. Experts are searching the identified area for potential debris. This follows a string of similar incidents, including a drone crash near Parcheș on March 26 and several incursions throughout early 2026.

Citizens are urged to follow only official institutional channels for information. The Ministry emphasizes that all measures are being taken to protect the national territory and the civilian population as Russian strikes continue to target nearby Ukrainian ports.
