Israel and Lebanon agree to temporary truce following mediation by President Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Israeli and Lebanese leaders have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire. The truce officially commenced at 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time (21:00 GMT), according to reports from Agerpres and Reuters.

The announcement followed what President Trump described as productive discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. The mediation aims to establish a window for broader diplomatic negotiations.

High-level diplomatic coordination

President Trump confirmed the agreement via Truth Social, noting that both leaders are committed to pursuing peace. To ensure the truce holds, he has tasked Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with oversight.

General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will also coordinate with both nations. This high-level team is expected to manage the technical aspects of the 10-day window to prevent immediate escalations.

White House invitations issued

As part of the diplomatic roadmap, President Trump intends to host Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Aoun at the White House. These upcoming talks are designed to transform the temporary armistice into a long-term security framework.

A U.S. official confirmed the ceasefire began this Thursday, despite initial ambiguities regarding the start date. "Both countries want to see peace, and I believe it will happen quickly," Trump stated regarding the initiative.
