Republic of Moldova could become a regional hub for Ukraine’s reconstruction, Alexandru Osmochescu.
The Republic of Moldova aims to position itself as a regional hub for Ukraine's reconstruction, focusing on infrastructure development and attracting interest from European investors. Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Osmochescu, who is also the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, notes that several companies from the European Union and Romania view Moldova as a promising logistics platform for future projects in Ukraine.
The Republic of Moldova is positioning itself as a hub for the future reconstruction of Ukraine, declared Osmochescu on the "ÎN CONTEXT" show on Moldova 1. He expressed hope that the war would conclude sooner rather than later, noting that Romania and various European Union companies are interested in using Moldova as a launch pad for rebuilding Ukraine.
Osmochescu highlighted that Moldova's transport infrastructure, particularly its railway connections, is a significant advantage. The country has multiple links with Ukraine, which facilitates more efficient logistics.
In collaboration with Ukrainian authorities, Moldova is also working to enhance its infrastructure to ease logistics and border crossing, especially in regions where work cannot be conducted on the Ukrainian side.
Furthermore, the government is evaluating major infrastructure projects, including the construction of an electrified railway from Chisinau to Stefan Voda, which may eventually connect to Odessa. There are also plans to modernize the airport, as air infrastructure in Ukraine will take time to resume operations.
Osmochescu noted, "Our airport will be reconstructed because we understand that airports like Odessa, Kiev, and Lviv will require a period to be recertified for international flights. We can take advantage of these conditions to foster business development in Moldova, but we must act decisively."
The Ukrainian ambassador to Chisinau, Paun Rohovei, mentioned that Osmochescu serves as the special representative of the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
