Strong gusts of wind, which began after 12:00, caused significant disruption in the Republic of Moldova. The most affected areas included the capital and the districts of Râșcani, Bălți, Fălești, Orhei, and Soroca. Downed trees blocked several roadways, damaged vehicles, and left some localities without electricity.

The police released images showing fallen trees, slate pieces torn from roofs, and other debris that caused damage in Chisinau and across various districts in the country.

"If you see fallen trees or electrical cables on the ground, avoid touching them and immediately report the situation to the single emergency service at 112 or contact the nearest police unit," said the police.

Due to adverse weather conditions, citizens are strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel and exercise caution, particularly around trees or billboards that could be affected by strong winds.

"The wind is already affecting Chisinau. We urge you: if you do not have an urgent reason to leave your home, please stay inside. Additionally, do not park your cars under trees. Emergency teams will be available to respond as necessary, but please prioritize your safety and that of your loved ones," stated Ion Ceban, the mayor of Chisinau.

The Leușeni - Albița border crossing temporarily suspended operations on the exit side from the Republic of Moldova due to severe weather conditions. Strong winds caused technical issues on the Romanian side, resulting in a power outage.

However, according to the Customs Service and the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova, the problem was resolved shortly after.

We would like to remind you that an Orange Wind Code is currently in effect in the Republic of Moldova on Sunday, April 26, until 9:00 p.m. A northwest wind is expected to strengthen, with gusts reaching 19 to 24 meters per second, and isolated gusts possibly reaching 26 meters per second.

Rescue officials urge citizens to refrain from setting fire to dry vegetation or household waste in open areas. Please avoid throwing cigarette butts, lit matches, or any other flammable objects onto land covered with dry vegetation, and exercise maximum caution during periods of strong gusts.

Additionally, it is advised to steer clear of old trees, electrical wires, and unstable objects. The General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) warns the public not to touch any cables that may have fallen to the ground to prevent the risk of electrocution.

Drivers are encouraged to park their vehicles in safe locations, away from trees, tall buildings, or other objects that could potentially fall due to strong winds.

Parents and caregivers should supervise children and prevent them from playing near trees or damaged buildings.

Authorities recommend limiting outdoor travel during hazardous weather events.

In case of emergencies, please call the emergency service at 112 immediately.
