Romania and the Republic of Moldova will launch projects attracting European investment, including in education

A new platform was launched in Chisinau on April 30 to facilitate the attraction of European funds for projects in education, public administration, tourism, and the economic environment. The priorities include modernizing the infrastructure of educational institutions and investing in practical courses that better prepare students for the labor market. The goal is to encourage more young people to pursue their studies in the Republic of Moldova.
The educational component of the project titled "Transfer of Good Practices and Strengthening of Administrative Capacity in Regional Development Policy between Romania and the Republic of Moldova" was launched by the Center for Analysis and Planning of Regional Development in Romania, in partnership with the Regional Development Agency of Chisinau. This initiative was introduced during an event held at the State University of Moldova (USM).
Currently, project ideas related to education are being discussed, as stated by Ion Ștefanovici, the president of the Center, in an interview with Teleradio-Moldova.
"We will be developing several projects, including university-level initiatives as well as programs for pre-university schools. We have gathered to begin preparing the mechanism for collaborating on these projects. Our focus will be on identifying funding sources, specialists, and partners. Afterwards, we will submit these proposals to financiers for evaluation and implementation," explained Ștefanovici.
The modernization of infrastructure is a priority for the State University of Moldova, emphasized the rector, Otilia Dandara. This focus aims to provide students with a more practice-oriented education that better prepares them for the labor market.
"We plan to propose project ideas and seek out new partners. We are particularly interested in initiatives related to overhauling the university’s infrastructure—including new conceptual designs for libraries, classrooms, and laboratories that will benefit students, faculty, and research personnel," said the rector of USM.
Monica Babuc, the director of the Romanian Cultural Institute "Mihai Eminescu" in Chisinau, highlighted the significance of a new project aimed at attracting young people to universities in the country.
"This initiative serves as a valuable and promising platform for young individuals from the Republic of Moldova to discover their paths here, in our country. It spans various sectors of the national economy, including public administration, cultural management, the development of tourist and cultural entrepreneurship, and the exploration of Moldova's historical and cultural heritage," stated Babuc.
This platform builds on the project titled "Good Practices and Knowledge Transfer for Strengthening Administrative Capacity in Regional Development Policy between Romania and the Republic of Moldova," which is set to conclude in July 2026.
The initiative is part of the cross-border program Interreg NEXT Romania-Republic of Moldova, aimed at enhancing administrative capabilities. The total budget for the project is nearly 300,000 euros, with approximately 260,000 euros coming from the European Union's contribution.
