Moldova-Japan AI and cyber security deal signed in Chisinau

Vice Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu and Japanese Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa signed a strategic memorandum today to bolster bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence and cyber security.

The agreement, finalized during a historic official visit to Chisinau, marks a significant expansion of diplomatic ties. Minister Yoshimasa is among the first Japanese cabinet members to visit Moldova since its independence.

Strengthening digital resilience

The partnership focuses on sustainable development and the responsible use of AI. Both nations committed to exchanging technical expertise to help society adapt to emerging technological shifts.

Minister Yoshimasa emphasized that the pact will deliver tangible benefits to citizens. He highlighted Japan's readiness to expand this partnership into other strategic industrial sectors beyond the digital realm.

Addressing regional security threats

Vice Prime Minister Osmochescu identified the ICT sector as a cornerstone of Moldova's economic growth. He noted that cyber security remains an integral part of the nation's digital transformation.

The discussions also addressed the regional conflict’s impact on Moldova. Officials specifically noted the rise in cyberattacks during election cycles, a risk more prevalent in free, democratic societies.

Future strategic collaboration

The meeting underscored the role of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in linking the two nations. This collaboration is expected to play a role in regional reconstruction efforts.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying bilateral dialogue. The agreement sets a long-term framework for strategic cooperation aimed at fostering innovation and economic stability for both nations.
