Works on the Vulcănești–Chișinău power line: Ministry of Energy announces the tests in June

The construction of the Vulcănești-Chișinău overhead power line has reached its final stage, with plans to energize and test the infrastructure in June. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Energy following an unannounced visit from Minister Dorin Junghietu to the Vulcănești and Chișinău power stations. During his visit, he assessed the progress of the work and ensured that the implementation deadlines were being met.

According to the ministry, the deadline to complete the installation work is the last week of May, and the necessary procedures to initiate the work's reception are currently underway.

The final primary equipment, the measuring transformers, has been delivered to the Vulcănești Power Station, and most of them were installed this week. Meanwhile, teams of workers are finishing the pulling of the busbar conductors and completing the final stages of stretching the command and control cables, as announced by the Ministry of Energy.

In the near future, the complete installation of the measuring transformers, the creation of secondary connections, and the initiation of the equipment commissioning stages will follow.

During a recent visit, the Minister of Energy also inspected the Chișinău Power Station, where work is underway to lay cable channels, construct pulling shafts, and build underpasses. Additionally, the installation and assembly of the container intended for protective systems is nearing completion.

"This project is the backbone of the energy security of the Republic of Moldova for the coming decades. We are entering the final, most critical, and technical stage, where every detail counts. I came unannounced to assess the actual pace of the work and the level of readiness on the ground. The Vulcănești–Chișinău line will replace the Vulcănești-MGRES line, which has strategic vulnerabilities and is significantly worn out," said the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu.

The Vulcănești–Chișinău power line is approximately 157 km long, connecting the Vulcănești 400 kV Power Station with the Chișinău 330 kV Power Station. The line has a transmission capacity of up to 630 MVA, enabling it to cover over 50% of the Republic of Moldova's consumption during peak periods. The Vulcănești–Chișinău overhead line is part of the Moldovan Power System Development Project, financed by the World Bank Group. The total value of the project is approximately 61 million euros, with approximately 27 million euros allocated to the construction of the power line.

The project is being implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, through the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Projects Implementation Unit (UCIPE), with Î.S. Moldelectrica as the direct beneficiary.
