Weather alert: Torrential rain and lightning expected

Today, May 12, rain and lightning are forecast for the Republic of Moldova. The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a Yellow Code for atmospheric instability, valid from 08:00 to 21:00.
Meteorologists report that the upcoming rains will be short-lived but may include hail and storms. They anticipate isolated areas could receive significant rainfall, ranging from 15 to 25 liters per square meter.
Additionally, wind gusts are expected to reach speeds of 15 to 20 meters per second.
Experts caution that unstable weather conditions may lead to traffic difficulties, and strong winds could break branches or damage poorly secured objects.
In light of this, citizens are advised to avoid seeking shelter under trees and to stay informed by following updates from the authorities.

The month of May marks the beginning of meteorological summer and the active growth of agricultural crops in the Republic of Moldova. However, it is also one of the most unpredictable times of the year in terms of climate.
According to an analysis by the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS), extreme temperature fluctuations have been observed in recent decades, ranging from frosts and late snowfalls to scorching highs of 37°C. Experts caution that May frosts pose the greatest threat to agriculture, particularly to orchards, vineyards, and vegetable crops.
