Government names Corina Călugăru State Secretary and recalls Jana Costachi
Serghei Mihov, the Republic of Moldova's appointed ambassador to Japan, will conclude his role as state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on May 15. He will be succeeded in this position by Corina Călugăru, who previously served as an ambassador with special missions within the MAE.
The decisions were approved during Wednesday's Cabinet of Ministers meeting. Corina Călugăru brings over 20 years of experience in diplomatic service, having worked in both the ministry's central administration and at various bilateral and multilateral diplomatic missions. She will officially assume the position of Secretary of State starting May 18.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, expressed gratitude, stating, "We thank her for accepting the challenge and wish her much success in her work."
Călugăru previously served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France and the Principality of Monaco. Additionally, she held roles as Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Personal Representative of the President of the Republic of Moldova to the International Organization of La Francophonie, and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe.
During the same meeting, the Government approved the recall of Jana Costachi from her position as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ireland, at her own request, after one year in the role. Jana Costachi was appointed Ambassador to Ireland in March 2025 and began her mandate after presenting her credentials in May.
In other decisions, the Government promoted Iulian Iorga to the position of Director of the State Agency for Intellectual Property (AGEPI), effective May 14. Additionally, Dumitru Darie was dismissed from his role as Director of the Agency for Digitalization in Justice and Judicial Administration, upon his resignation.
