Civil society and Parliament discuss progress and updated commitments

Deputies from various parliamentary factions, public authorities, development partners, and representatives of civil society will convene on Friday, May 22, for the annual conference titled "Cooperation between Parliament and Civil Society." The event will be held at the Palace of the Republic and will be opened by Doina Gherman, the Vice-President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, and Nicolae Ștefănuță, the Vice-President of the European Parliament (EP).

According to a press release from the Legislative, an upcoming conference will evaluate the progress of cooperation between Parliament and civil society and identify new commitments to strengthen this partnership. The discussions will be moderated by Ana Calinici, Vice-Chair of the Committee for European Integration.

The conference will feature speeches from several key figures, including Petra Maria Larke, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Moldova; Guido Beltrani, the Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Republic of Moldova; and Sergiu Gurău, a representative of the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum.

During the general session, the focus will be on enhancing the dialogue between Parliament and civil society organizations, promoting transparency in decision-making, and encouraging citizen involvement in the legislative process.

The event agenda will also include thematic sessions addressing the Open Government Plan and Parliament's commitments, the sustainability of civil society, the role of civil society at the local level in the decision-making process, and the contributions of civil society to European integration.

In 2023, the Platform for Dialogue and Civic Participation in the Parliament's Decision-Making Process was established to create cooperation tools between the legislature and civil society.

The annual conference on cooperation between the Legislature and civil society is scheduled to begin on Friday at 10:00 AM.
