Moldova showcases products at the China International Import Expo alongside over 180 countries

The Republic of Moldova will participate in a major international exhibition focused on trade and imports from China. This commitment was confirmed during a visit by the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and head of diplomacy, Mihai Popșoi, to China. He discussed this initiative with Wu Zhengping, the director of the Shanghai International Import Expo Bureau.

The China International Import Expo has brought together approximately 27,000 companies from over 180 countries across its first eight editions, making it one of the most significant international exhibitions in its field. The ninth edition, in which the Republic of Moldova will also participate, is scheduled for this November.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA, discussions with Wu Zhengping, the director of the Shanghai International Import Exhibition Bureau, centered on promoting Moldovan products in the Chinese market through the China International Import Expo platform.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi expressed his desire to more actively utilize this platform to promote Moldovan wines and agri-food products under the "Made in Moldova" brand and to develop direct relationships with Chinese importers.

During his talks with Lu Shan, the vice mayor of Shanghai responsible for foreign relations and international trade, Mihai Popșoi also addressed the potential for expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, and investment. The Chinese official appreciated the quality of Moldovan wines and recognized the potential to broaden their presence in the Chinese market by diversifying the product range.

During his visit to China, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi proposed to Deputy Minister of Trade Ling Ji the possibility of adjusting customs duties on imports of Moldovan wines to enhance their presence in the Chinese market. He emphasized Moldova's interest in diversifying and increasing exports of agri-food products, particularly wine.

Additionally, Mihai Popșoi visited AllyNav and Shanghai Hemi, companies that specialize in smart agriculture and digital trade, to discuss the inclusion of Moldovan products, especially agri-food items, in their portfolios.

China ranks among the top three trading partners of the Republic of Moldova, with bilateral trade exceeding one billion dollars in 2025. Moldova primarily exports wine, electrical circuit-switching and protection equipment, and beverages, including mineral and carbonated waters, to the Chinese market. Meanwhile, imports from China mainly consist of mobile phones, cars, and air conditioners.

Mihai Popșoi's visit to China, from May 21 to 25, was held at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. This marked the first official visit by a Moldovan Foreign Minister to China since 2018.
