European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos will pay an official visit to Chișinău on 4 and 5 June. She will open the EU–Moldova Investment Conference and the Moldova Digital Summit. Her agenda also includes meetings with President Maia Sandu, parliamentary leaders, and opposition representatives.

Discussions will focus on delivering direct economic benefits to citizens as the formal opening of accession negotiation clusters remains blocked at the level of the Council of the European Union.

The centerpiece of the visit is the EU–Moldova Investment Conference, scheduled for 4 June in Chișinău and jointly organized by the Moldovan government and the European Commission, with support from Invest Moldova and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization. The conference will open with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, and President Maia Sandu.

The event marks one year since the launch of Moldova’s €1.9 billion Growth Plan for 2025–2027.

Discussions will cover energy and the green transition, agrifood industries, advanced manufacturing, infrastructure and connectivity, as well as innovation and biotechnology.

According to the European Commission, the first call for investment projects attracted 45 proposals from companies based in the EU, the European Economic Area, and Moldova.

On 4 June, Kos will also meet with Maia Sandu and address participants at the investment conference.

On 5 June, the agenda will expand to political and sectoral issues. Together with Maia Sandu, Kos will attend a forum on youth policies. She will then meet Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, members of the parliamentary committee on European integration, and representatives of the parliamentary opposition.

The commissioner will also take part in the opening of the Moldova Digital Summit, held at Arena Chișinău on 5–6 June under the theme “Where Digital Vision Meets European Ambition”. The summit focuses on three pillars: European integration through digitalization, investment, and skills development.

This will be Marta Kos’s fourth visit to Chișinău since taking office on 1 December 2024. Her first visit, on 5 February 2025, featured a dialogue with civil society, academia, and business representatives on EU accession. At the time, she stressed that continued support from Brussels depended on sustained reforms.

Her second visit, from 3 to 5 September 2025, highlighted progress, including the completion of the screening process, Moldova’s accession to the Roam Like at Home initiative, and a new trade regime that expanded export opportunities for Moldovan producers.

During her third visit on 11 November 2025, linked to the presentation of the 2025 Enlargement Report, Kos met the government led by Alexandru Munteanu and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov. She also attended the Women4Security Forum and held discussions on the enlargement report and Moldova’s newly established parliamentary committee on European integration.

These visits coincided with tangible progress in Moldova’s accession process, including the completion of bilateral screening in September 2025, the launch of technical discussions on the first three chapters in December 2025, and the technical opening of all six negotiation clusters by March 2026.
