Three villages in Strășeni connected to modern sewer systems through €1.8 million investment

Three localities in Strășeni district were connected to modern sewage systems. The €1.8 million investment also included the construction of wastewater treatment plants.

In the village of Gălești, 115 households will be connected to a new sewage system after the outdated Soviet-era infrastructure proved insufficient.

“We were lucky to use the old Soviet sewer system. It was outdated and caused constant problems. Now that we are connected, it is much easier and better,” said local resident Grigore Andreev.

“Wastewater used to reach wells and gardens. Now, with the new treatment plant, we are glad the water will be filtered,” said another resident.

About five kilometers of pipeline have been built in the village, and the new infrastructure will also serve the local gymnasium.

“We were previously connected to an old treatment plant that often caused serious problems,” said Aurelia Budu, director of the “Anastasia Dicescu” gymnasium.

The EU4Moldova: Local Communities project supported the construction of sewer networks and wastewater treatment plants in the villages of Căpriana and Scoreni in the Strășeni district, with funding from the European Union and the Government of Austria.

“We aim for all villages in the Republic of Moldova to have modern sewer systems within 10–15 years in order to reduce diseases caused by poor water quality,” said Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolea.

Only one in ten localities in Moldova currently has access to public sewer systems, according to data from the 2025 National Bureau of Statistics. Specifically, 109 rural localities and 55 cities are connected, with coverage increasing by just 6% in one year.
