More travelers choose last-minute trips despite risks
More Moldovans are increasingly interested in last-minute travel deals, known as "last minute," in hopes of finding more affordable vacations. However, tourism specialists argue that these offers are not always the most beneficial option.
According to Ion Alexa, the president of the National Association of Travel Agencies of Moldova (ANAT), flash offers often arise when certain tourist packages are canceled by clients or when airlines and hotels attempt to fill unsold seats.
"Instead of losing out, they try to sell these at lower prices in the final stretch," Alexa explained to Teleradio-Moldova.
Alexa describes these flash offers as “more of a lottery than a practical solution.” He noted that reputable hotels with high occupancy rates seldom release offers during the peak tourist season, as rooms are typically booked well in advance.
"Generally, it is the less popular hotels that tend to offer such deals. However, there is a risk that tourists might be disappointed if, upon arrival, they discover conditions that differ from their expectations,” he added.
The specialist recommends that tourists seeking comfort and wishing to choose their preferred destination and hotel make their reservations early. The "early booking" system provides more advantageous prices, greater flexibility, and the option to pay for vacations in instalments.
"It is advisable to book early, ideally four, five, or even six months before your planned vacation, when hotels still have available rooms. This way, you can select the accommodation that best matches your preferences regarding ratings and services," said Ion Alexa.
Ongoing international instability and rapidly rising fuel prices have contributed to increased vacation costs this summer. Nevertheless, Moldovans continue to indulge in vacations, with the most popular destinations being Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, and Egypt.
Vacation prices vary depending on inclusions, the accommodation type, and the chosen destination. “Prices start at 199 euros, and the upper limit is virtually limitless,” stated Ion Alexa.
