Moldovan citizens will continue to benefit from the liberalised visa regime

Approximately 2.500 million Moldovans have benefited from the visa-free regime for travel in the Schengen area, during 8 years of operation of the liberalised visa regime - reads a report of the European Commission. According to the document, biometric passport holders have travelled to the European Union, in this period, more than 10.5 million times.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Daniel Vodă, mentions that the Republic of Moldova has fulfilled the recommendations of the European Commission, thus, Moldovan citizens will continue to benefit from the liberalised visa regime.

"The report contains a detailed assessment of developments in the field of migration, asylum and readmission, as well as legal cooperation, public order and security. The report also formulates a series of specific recommendations for each individual country. For example, in the case of our country, they refer to the continuation of information campaigns dedicated without visas to the relevant migration profiles, including vulnerable groups, people who exceed the period of legal stay in the EU and people who submit unjustified requests for asylum in EU states", said Daniel Vodă.

TRM.MD recalls that the Republic of Moldova was the first country from the Eastern Partnership to obtain the liberalised visa regime with the European Union, on April 28, 2014.
