BNM launches commemorative coin honoring scientist Sergiu Rădăuțanu

A century after the birth of Sergiu Rădăuțanu, the first rector of the Technical University, the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) celebrates his legacy with a commemorative silver coin.
The coin titled "Sergiu Rădăuțanu – 100 years since birth" has been released for circulation as part of the "Science and Innovation" series, starting June 17.
Sergiu Rădăuțanu was an internationally renowned scientist and specialist in the physics and chemistry of semiconductor materials. He made significant contributions to the development of technical education and the training of the intelligentsia in Bassarabia. He was also a full member of the Academy of Sciences.
According to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), "Sergiu Rădăuțanu, a PhD and university professor, published over a thousand scientific papers and received multiple awards, including the Order of the Republic and the title of Emeritus Scientist."

The coin is made of silver, has a face value of 50 lei, and is part of a limited edition consisting of only 500 copies. The graphic design of this numismatic piece was created by Georgeta Vrabie.
Each coin is packaged in a transparent methacrylate capsule and presented in a decorative box. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Anca Dragu, the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.
The certificate includes a QR code, which provides direct access to detailed information about the coin's characteristics on the official NBM website.
