Moldova to launch automated vehicle eCall emergency system by 2027

The Moldovan Government approved the necessary legislative framework on June 24 to modernize the national 112 emergency service by integrating western eCall technology.
In the event of severe traffic accidents, the vehicle-mounted eCall system will use onboard sensors to automatically trigger a call to the 112 emergency number without requiring action from passengers. Motorists can also activate the system manually via a dashboard button. The platform is scheduled to become fully operational in May 2027.
Automated data transmission for rapid rescue
Once activated, the system instantly transmits a minimum set of telemetric data to emergency dispatchers to ensure a rapid rescue response. This package includes the vehicle's precise geographical coordinates, direction of travel, timestamp of the accident, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), vehicle type, and propulsion system. Where technically possible, the system will also transmit the estimated passenger count.
Emergency services will use this data to locate vehicles swiftly and coordinate rescue operations with higher precision. Under the new regulations, automated eCall alerts will receive the exact same priority as standard voice calls made to the 112 emergency number.
Significant reduction in response times
According to authorities, the project aims to minimize deployment times and streamline communication between the 112 dispatch center, police, ambulance, and fire services. European Commission estimates show that implementing eCall technology can reduce emergency response times by approximately 40% in urban areas and up to 50% in rural districts.
Government officials specified that automotive manufacturers and importers will be responsible for equipping vehicles with the system. They will also be legally required to inform consumers regarding the features, compatibility, and potential limitations of the technology.
