1,328 students get 1,000 lei monthly

Students transferring to different educational institutions due to the reorganization of their previous schools will continue to receive financial support from the state. The government approved amendments to the Regulation on Providing Allowances to Enhance Access to Quality Education during its meeting on June 24.
According to the new regulations, 1,328 students in general education will receive a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei. This support will be provided over two consecutive years of study, for nine months each year, starting with the 2026-2027 academic year.
“The reform of the school network must not disadvantage any child. The monthly allowance of 1,000 lei, granted over two years, is a concrete way for the state to take responsibility for families directly affected by the reorganization. Every lei is an investment in the system, contributing to improved study conditions for students,” said Dan Perciun, the Minister of Education and Research.
The allowance will be given to the parents or legal representatives of students who have been transferred to another educational institution. This financial support aims to help offset the additional expenses and efforts involved in transitioning to a new school.
The estimated budget for the two years the measure will be in effect is 23.9 million lei. Authorities clarify that this is not a new financing mechanism but an adjustment of the existing one established in 2024.
In 2026, there are plans to reorganize 73 educational institutions. Among these, ten will cease operations, while another 63 will undergo reorganization: 47 schools will be converted into primary schools, and 16 will be transformed into institutions that combine primary school and kindergarten.
The costs required to provide additional transportation for students will be covered by the centralized funds of the Ministry of Education and Research, along with the budgets of the educational institutions, eliminating the need for extra allocations from the state budget.
