Illegal valuables discovered at Chisinau airport: gold, cash and cigarettes seized

A man attempted to fly out of Moldova with ten gold bars in his luggage. He was left without his belongings and now faces sanctions.

The Border Police reported the discovery of gold bars in the hand luggage of a 67-year-old foreign citizen, who was ticketed for a flight from Chisinau to Istanbul.

In a separate incident, customs officers and border police detected a 46-year-old foreign citizen on the Chisinau-to-Vienna flight carrying 28,450 euros. This amount was concealed and not declared as required by law.

Additionally, 300 packages of undeclared tobacco products were found in the luggage of a 63-year-old foreign citizen who was about to board a flight from Chisinau to Tel Aviv.

According to the Border Police, "the goods and financial assets have been seized and are subject to special confiscation, and the individuals involved may face sanctions."

We remind you that, under current legislation, any amounts exceeding 10,000 euros or valuable items brought into or taken out of the Republic of Moldova must be declared to the customs authorities.
