Farmers report encouraging results as rapeseed harvest starts
The rapeseed harvest season has started in the northern part of the country. Following a challenging agricultural year, farmers report that the initial results are promising. In the village of Egoreni, located in the Soroca district, combines are working from dawn until dusk. Farmers are hopeful that the weather will stay favorable for a successful harvest.

In Egoreni, every window of opportunity without rain is utilized to the fullest. Combines enter the fields early in the morning as farmers strive to harvest rapeseed before the weather changes.
“We work from dawn until late in the day to meet our harvesting schedule. It looks like a promising harvest, but we won’t know for sure until we finish,” says combine operator Marcel Sîrghi.
Agronomist Artur Tighineanu notes that the weather has been favorable, and the harvest appears promising. Initial estimates indicate approximately three tons of rapeseed per hectare.
“There have been years with heavy rain and high humidity. We are pleased to be in the midst of harvesting the crop. While this year is a little more challenging due to some precipitation, we are optimistic because we also have a second group of crops that require moisture during their active growth period, which should yield excellent results. The grains look to be in very good condition,” explains Tighineanu.
Alongside the combines, rescuers have also been deployed to the fields to check fire extinguishers, water supplies, and equipment condition. In dry fields, a technical malfunction or a spark can lead to fires.
“We have water barrels with a capacity of around 180 liters each, and we also supply a blanket with each combine and tractor. We brought a tractor equipped with a four-ton water tank,” mentions engineer Anatol Ştirbu.
“We have familiarized farmers with the essential fire protection rules. Additionally, we provided them with information leaflets for emergency situations. We also inspected the agricultural machinery used in the harvesting process,” adds Eugen Doga, the deputy head of the Soroca Emergencies Directorate.
The rapeseed harvest has just begun, and there has already been one field fire reported in the Stefan Voda district.
