UNFPA launches interactive resources for adolescents

Adolescents in the Republic of Moldova will have access to four interactive educational resources to help them understand age-related changes, manage their emotions, and build healthy relationships. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Moldova has launched the “Adolescent’s Journal”, a series of educational materials for girls and boys aged 10 to 15.
The four journals are designed for adolescents in two age groups: 10–12 and 13–15. They cover topics such as physical and emotional development, health, self-discovery, friendships, healthy relationships, consent, personal safety, and violence prevention.
The materials feature information in accessible language, along with interactive exercises and activities; a multidisciplinary team of specialists, with adolescent involvement, developed them to address their questions and needs.

The initiative comes against the backdrop of the challenges adolescents face in the Republic of Moldova.
According to data presented by the UNFPA, one in two adolescents experiences digital violence, and one in four students has been subjected to comments regarding their body, sexuality, or physical appearance.
Furthermore, in 2024, over 1,200 births were recorded among adolescent girls, and the birth rate within this age group remains higher than the European Union average.

UNFPA representatives maintain that access to accurate, age-appropriate information is essential for adolescents to make informed decisions and build healthy, safe relationships.
"We envision a society where every adolescent and young person has access to the information, knowledge, and support needed for healthy development and a smooth transition into adulthood. Through EduLIFE, we are helping young people develop the skills to build healthy and safe relationships, make informed choices, participate actively in society, and prepare for their professional lives," stated Ludmila Sîrbu, Deputy Representative of UNFPA in the Republic of Moldova.
The journals are designed for individual use, allowing each adolescent to progress at their own pace; however, they can also be used with the support of a parent, mentor, or another trusted adult whenever questions arise or guidance is needed.
In the initial phase, the materials will be distributed free of charge in printed format through partner non-governmental organizations that work with young people. They will also be available in Russian, and the series will be expanded to include editions tailored for adolescents aged 16 and older.
The four journals, titled "Adolescent’s Journal – On body, emotions, and relationships," can be viewed and downloaded for free in digital format from the official UNFPA Moldova website.
