Ion Ceban reports bomb threat at City Hall during progress report
The Chisinau City Hall was the target of a bomb threat on Friday, November 6—the very day the report on the municipality’s activities over the past three years is set to be presented. Mayor Ion Ceban confirmed this information.
“Just as City Hall was presenting its three-year progress report, we received a bomb threat. I sincerely hope that no similar threats were reported today at the Palace of the Republic. Also today, coincidentally at exactly 10:00 a.m., a Security Council meeting was announced. Perhaps this time they will finally make decisions that actually benefit the people,” Ceban wrote on social media.
The mayor suggested the bomb threat could be linked to the report's presentation, drawing a parallel with searches carried out in May 2023, the day City Hall’s Social Forum was scheduled to open.
“We remember how, some time ago, just before the City Hall’s Social Forum, we woke up to the news that some of our colleagues had been detained,” Ceban noted.
The mayor also recalled another incident during a municipal event: the Youth Fest concert, held in the Great National Assembly Square on September 22, 2024.
“Fire trucks drove into the crowd when around 100,000 people were present,” the mayor wrote.
Ion Ceban was first elected Mayor General of Chișinău in November 2019, running as a candidate for the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM). Following the local elections on November 5, 2023, he secured a second term, winning in the first round as the candidate of the National Alternative Movement (MAN), a party he founded and currently leads.
A bomb threat was also reported on the evening of Wednesday, November 4, at the Moldtelecom headquarters in Chișinău’s Centru district. Police cordoned off the area and dispatched several units and specialised services to the scene.
In line with established procedures, specialised teams checked the credibility of the threat and ensured the safety of those present.
